
2023 National Chinese Speech Contest (NCSC)
Introduction
The American Academy of International Culture and Education (AAICE) is pleased to announce that the 2023 National Chinese Speech Contest will be held online in collaboration with the Chinese Language Teachers Association (CLTA-USA). All U.S. grades 3-12, and college-level Chinese language learners are invited to participate in the contest. Prizes will be awarded to both the winners and their teachers.
2023 NCSC will feature Chinese cultural performances during final competitions. All Chinese learners, including students who are not participating in the 2023 NCSC, from grade K through college, are welcome to submit videos to be considered in the NCSC finals and/or other AAICE events and websites. Theme
The theme of the 2023 National Chinese Speech Contest is “How My World is Changed Because of Chinese 我的世界因中文而不同.” Participants can further develop their own topics based on their Chinese language and culture learning experiences.
Groupings
All participants need to be enrolled in a Chinese language program in a U.S. state-registered accredited school.
Contestants will be grouped by their grade levels.
The contest will consist of four major groups and 10 subgroups:
1. Grades 3-5 Chinese language learners with the following subgroups

Chinese language learners
-
heritage language learners
2. Grades 6-8 Chinese language learners with the following subgroups
-
immersion program learners
-
world language learners
-
heritage language learners
3. Grades 9-12 Chinese language learners with the following subgroups

immersion program learners
-
world language learners
-
heritage language learners
4. College-level Chinese language learners with the following subgroups
-
world language learners
-
heritage language learners
AAICE reserves the right to change the groupings if necessary.

Online Registration
Teachers are welcome to recommend their students for the competition. Each teacher can recommend up to a total of ten participants from different sub-groups.
Step 1. Teacher Recommendation

Complete the teacher’s school and personal information. Start recommending students.

A recommendation code for each of the recommended students will be sent out within 48 hours.
Step 2. Student Application and Submission of Required Materials

Students must use the recommendation code they receive to complete the online application form.

Submit the following documents along with the application form:
-
A video with a self-introduction and your speech(2 to 3 minutes for Grades 3 to 12 students and 3 to 4 minutes for college students.)

A parent/guardian consent form for media use (college-level applicants will submit their own consent form)

Judging Criteria

Awards

All contestants will receive a participation certificate.

Non-monetary prizes will be awarded to winners in each of the 10 sub-categories:

First place – (1 in each sub-category)

Second place – (2 in each sub-category)
-
Third place – (3 in each sub-category)
-
Honorable mention – (4-6 in each sub-category)

Teachers whose students win the first, second, and third places will receive a $50 gift certificate for educational supplies.
